My Drifting Nature Interview

Here is an interview I did with one of all my time fav bands ever, Kings of Convenience. Both Eirik and Erlend come from the west coast of Norway, from a city called Bergen, so I had to conduct this interview via email. I am pleased with the outcome of it. This interview was done February 11, 2002 with Eirik. Hopefully someday I will have the chance to see them live, until then I will just listen to my mp3's and CD. Please email me and let me know what you thought of the interview.

Thanks,
Chris

First start off by telling us who is in Kings of Convenience, your ages, where your from, and who plays what.

Eirik, 26, from Bergen, plays nylon string guitar and sings.
Erlend, 26, from Bergen, plays steel string guitar and sings.

Have you either of you been in any other bands?

We started playing in an experimental (means you haven't got a clue what you're doing) rock band called skog ('92-'97). Released an ep. Still interesting to listen to, but very hard to get hold of a copy..

Is there any meaning behind the name Kings of Convenience?

Yes, several different meanings. Convenience is a very interesting term. It is connected to taoism, going with the flow of the world. Not forcing anything upon yourself or others. At the same time lazily striving for convenience in the technological age, has become problematic. Where does "the easy life" lead us?

How would you describe your music to someone that has never heard it?

Before? Acoustic pop for people of today. Subtle.

What inspires you to write music?

Anything, but not listening to music that I like. When I hear a great song I ask myself why should I make a new song when this great song has already been made?

Tell us one of your most memorable places you have ever played live, and why?

We've played many memorable places. My favourite was probably the Italian town of Urbino. Medieval town on the top of a mountain. Beautiful place.

Have you ever played in the United States? Are you guys going to tour the US anytime soon?

We did a mini tour in America in August 2000. We might go back this summer..

What do you see in the future for Kings of Convenience?

money, fame, beautiful girls, cocaine, decadence, personal tragedy..

Any last comments?

We are all responsible for the state in which we leave our planet to our children. Work hard, but be gentle to yourself. Take care Chris!
